Your Invitation Is His Open Door
“Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip" (John 1:45-46, NIV).
Beloved, over these past few days, we have seen how evangelism is not a stressful duty but a restful overflow. It flows from a heart filled with His compassion, and it is shared through the powerful, personal story of His goodness in your life.
So, what happens next? You've listened with love, you've shared a testimony... you may be sensing the Holy Spirit’s prompting, but you're not sure what to do. My friend, I want to show you one of the simplest and yet most powerful steps you can take: extending an invitation.
Now, what’s the first thing that often stops us? It’s that four-letter word: F-E-A-R. Fear of rejection. Fear of being judged. Fear that our friends will think we're strange. It's normal to feel these things.
But listen, your worth and righteousness are not based on their response. You are already complete in Christ, seated with Him in heavenly places! Your part is simply to extend the loving invitation; the results are in His hands. The pressure is off you! It's not our duty to change anyone, only God can do it.
Look at Philip in our Scripture today. When Nathanael was skeptical, Philip didn't get into a long argument about Nazareth's virtues. His response was simple, secure, and full of faith: "Come and see." He knew that one encounter with Jesus would be more convincing than a thousand of his own best arguments.
As you stay sensitive to the Holy Spirit, He may give you that same simple strategy. You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, the most powerful next step is to say, "Hey, why don't you come and see for yourself?"
In Acts 10, a Roman centurion named Cornelius, prompted by God, simply invited the apostle Peter into his home. He didn't know the full gospel message himself, but he knew he needed to get the man of God into his house. That one simple invitation became the doorway for his entire family and close friends to hear the word of grace, receive the Holy Spirit, and be gloriously saved!
Beloved, never underestimate the power of your invitation. Whether it's to your church service, a care group, a school fellowship, a believer community, or one of our upcoming evangelistic events, your invite is a powerful bridge. You are building a bridge of love for someone to walk across and experience the gospel for themselves. You are inviting them to "come and see" the goodness of a God who already loves them, is for them, and has a glorious future planned for them.
(I was saved when someone invited me to come to a school fellowship meeting and received Christ then).
So, let's put it all together. Evangelism is His compassion flowing through you, His story told by you, and His invitation extended by you. It is all of Him. It is all by grace. And it is all for His glory.
Thought for the Day
My simple invitation can be the bridge God uses to bring someone home to Him. I will trust Him with the results.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You that I don't have to have all the answers. Thank You for the power of a simple invitation. Give me the courage and the wisdom to know when to say, "Come and see." I trust that as I extend the invitation in love, You will do the drawing and the saving. Use my simple act of faith to bring many into Your beautiful family. In Jesus’ name, amen.
