What Did Jesus Teach?

DAY 6 OF 7

You Can’t Serve Two Masters

Jesus had a lot to say about money—not because He was obsessed with it, but because we are.

He didn’t say money was evil. But He was brutally honest:

“You can’t serve both God and money.” (Matthew 6:24 NIV)

Not “You shouldn’t.”
Not “It’s hard.”
You can’t.

Because eventually, one will ask for something the other doesn’t. One will form your decisions. One will shape your future. And only one leads to life.

Jesus didn’t avoid this conversation—He leaned into it. He told stories about people who clung to riches and missed the kingdom, and people who gave it away and found real treasure.

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21 NIV)

That’s not guilt. That’s clarity.

Jesus knew money can become a false god—something that promises security, control, identity. But in the end, it can’t love you back. It can’t save your soul. It can’t heal your heart.

Only God can do that.

So think about this—or ask a friend:

  • What do you think Jesus meant by “serving” money?
  • Where does money offer you comfort or control?
  • What would it look like to trust God with your security instead?

About this Plan

What Did Jesus Teach?

If Jesus really is who He says He is, then what He taught matters—deeply not just for religion, but for real life. In this 7-day plan, you’ll explore the core themes of Jesus’ teaching: who God is, what love actually means, why forgiveness frees you, and how His words lay the foundation for a whole new way to live. This isn’t about vague inspiration or rule-keeping. It’s about rethinking everything around the words of a man who claimed to bring God’s kingdom—starting now.
