When the Joy Is MissingSample

When the Joy Is Missing

DAY 5 OF 5

How Do You Find Happiness?

Good question—because isn’t that what we all want? To be happy?

Jesus says, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11 NLT).

So, what did Jesus say in this chapter? What does a person need to do to be filled with His joy, as He says here?

A lot of things. But mainly just one thing: “Remain in my love!…This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you” (John 15:9 and 12 NIV).

When we love, sadness will give way to joy.

Don’t wait for a feeling of joy before you love. If you love before you feel like it, you will experience the joy you’re missing right now.

So, what does LOVING look like in everyday life? It’s simple and totally doable. Even if you’re lying in bed today, grab your phone and send some kind words to someone, even if your mood is at rock bottom!

Buy flowers for someone, or help a friend move, even if all you want is to curl up with your sadness. Hug someone, even when you feel like you’re the one who needs comforting. The possibilities are endless!

The greatest example I could give you comes from the Father Himself: “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8 NIV).

And I don’t believe God was happy that day when He made the decision to sacrifice His Son…But He did it because love was His priority. His decision to act out of love, despite His “sadness over the world,” shows us:

When we love, sadness will give way to joy.

Because thanks to that sacrifice on the cross, we will live FOREVER and FULL OF JOY! Wow!

Don’t let sadness defeat you—you can love your way to happiness today! 😉

You are a miracle!
