Arrows Not Lines: Discovering a Centered-Set Faith

DAY 5 OF 6

“Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.” (John 4:29 NIV)

Jesus meets a woman at a well in the middle of the day—a time when no one else is around. She’s isolated, ashamed, and carrying the weight of broken relationships. But Jesus doesn’t draw a line around her and exclude her. He speaks with her, listens to her, and invites her into living water.

This conversation reveals something powerful: Jesus isn’t afraid of our mess. He moves toward people others move away from. And not only does he engage with this woman—he entrusts her with a message. She becomes a witness to her whole village.

In a bounded-set approach, her past might disqualify her. But in a centred-set world, she’s exactly the kind of person Jesus uses. Not because she has it all together, but because she turns toward him.

Jesus meets us where we are. And he always invites us to move forward. No one is too far. No story is too messy. You can start from exactly where you are today.

Reflection Question: What would it mean for you to follow Jesus from exactly where you are right now?

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for seeing me fully and still welcoming me. Help me take a step toward you today. Use even my messy story to point others to your grace.

About this Plan

Arrows Not Lines: Discovering a Centered-Set Faith

What if faith wasn’t about who’s in or out, but where you're headed? This 6-day plan explores the difference between a bounded set—defined by rules and lines—and a centred set, where Jesus is the centre and direction matters more than status. Through stories of grace and challenge, we’ll see how anyone, from any starting point, can move toward Christ. In a centred-set church, practices and beliefs are arrows pointing to Jesus, not barriers keeping people out. No one is too far; everyone is invited to take the next step.
