Lessons From the Story of Gideon

DAY 2 OF 7

You’ve got the wrong guy!

When I first felt God calling me to write Hindi worship songs, my initial reaction was:

“God, You’ve got the wrong guy…No way! I don’t even speak Hindi that well.”

Growing up, my parents always pushed me to speak English, so it felt like God had surely made a mistake when He picked me to become a Hindi worship leader.

But here’s what I’ve learned: God often calls the overlooked and the underestimated.

  • David, who was the youngest son, was left tending sheep while his brothers stood before Samuel (1 Samuel 16:10-11).
  • Moses had once been a prince but became a murderer and a fugitive when God called him. On top of that, He had a speech impediment (Exodus 3).
  • Jeremiah said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” when God called him to be a prophet (Jeremiah 1:6).

And then there’s Gideon, who had the same reaction when God called him:

“Pardon me, my Lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” – Judges 6:15 NIV

God’s reply? “I will be with you” (Judges 6:16 NIV).

No pep talk. No list of reasons why Gideon was actually qualified. God didn’t even argue with Gideon about being weak or insignificant. He simply said:

"It’s not about you—it’s about the fact that I am with you."

And that’s a reminder for you today. Do you feel small, weak, or insignificant like Gideon? Are you facing a task that feels way beyond your abilities?

God is saying to you today, “I am with you! Stop focusing on your shortcomings and start focusing on my power in you.”

He’s got you!

Hey! You are a Chamatkar.
