From Dugouts to Destiny: Trusting God in Every SeasonSample

Building a Legacy Beyond the Field
Sports will come to an end one day. But the impact of your life after sports will last much longer than any career. That truth shifts my focus to what really matters most.
My relationship with God is my life’s treasure. Even though I’ve gone through seasons where I ignored Him, I know God never left me. His steady presence reminds me of His goodness in every season. One of the greatest blessings in my life is my family.
I’ve also been blessed with Christian parents and in-laws who dedicated their lives to God and their families. They have taught me the profound value of living for Christ. Their example has become a guide I want to follow. My greatest desire is to pass on to my children the same legacy my parents have instilled in me.
When I think about what I want to leave behind, the most important thing is helping my family know and follow God. In Colossians 1, Paul prayed for believers. He asked that they would understand God’s will and know what makes Him happy in daily life. Paul also prayed that they would grow in wisdom and understanding, so that they could live in a way that honors God. These words echo the prayer of my own heart. I want the same things for my family, and I pray for them often.
Legacy is not about being famous. Legacy is about being faithful. Fame fades, but faith leaves a lasting imprint. A life lived for God and a family rooted in Him will make a bigger impact than any sports career.
Every word we speak, every choice we make, and every moment at home is a chance to leave a mark that matters. When we build our families on God’s truth, we build a strong foundation that can bless generations to come.
Challenge:
- What kind of legacy are you building off the field?
- Who’s watching you now, and what are they learning?
- Pray Colossians 1:9 over your marriage and children (or future spouse and children).
Prayer:
"Lord, let my legacy be more than trophies. Let it be love. Let it be faith. Use my story—even the messy middle—to show others who You are. Help me finish strong, even in the unseen moments. Amen."

About this Plan

Every athlete dreams of winning, but what happens when the lights go out and the season ends? In this six-day plan, Jose Vazquez, former Major League Baseball strength coach, shares what he discovered after reaching his dream of becoming a World Series champion. Through personal stories, challenges, and prayers, he points to the truth that real identity is not found in winning but in Christ. Whether you are starting, finishing, or somewhere in between, God has a purpose for you that lasts far beyond the scoreboard.
