WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

DAY 42 OF 61

Fully Alive

How many times have we found ourselves just going through the motions of life and feeling completely burned out? How often do we chase after the things of this world, thinking they will finally satisfy us, only to end up more empty and exhausted than when we began?

I know I have been there. It is easy to get caught up in the routines of life, work, responsibilities, and distractions, and convince ourselves that what we are chasing will bring fulfillment. However, Habakkuk 2:13 serves as a reminder that, in the end, all striving, apart from God, is nothing more than fuel for the fire.

The things of this world cannot truly satisfy. Chasing after them will always leave us empty and without lasting fruit.

Then we come to Acts 10, and we see a completely different picture. Cornelius and his household were not chasing the world. They were not exhausting themselves trying to build their own name or security. Instead, they were waiting on God, hungry for His presence.

As Peter preached, the Holy Spirit fell on them. They were filled, not drained. Their lives were marked by something that would last for eternity.

Habakkuk shows us the burnout that comes from chasing the world. Acts shows us the fullness that comes from waiting on God. When we slow down and make room for Him, when we invite Him into our homes, our daily routines, and our hearts, He fills us with what is real and lasting. No more chasing smoke. Instead, we experience life in His presence, fully alive.

About this Plan

WE SHALL NOT DIE - Reading With the People of God #17

In this 17th installment of Reading with the People of God, we continue following a lectionary rhythm—Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms. This plan explores the prophetic voices of Micah, Habakkuk, and Isaiah, who confronted kings and warned of coming judgment while pointing to the hope of the Messiah. Alongside these, we'll read from the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, tracing the life of Christ and the birth of the Church. As we read these powerful passages in parallel, may the Spirit shape us and grow us in Christ together.
