Journey Through Minor Prophets, Part 2Sample

Intro
Nicole introduces this lesson on Joel and Josiah in which the Assyrians are on their way out, but the Babylonians are on their way in.
Joel & Josiah: In the Text
Joel begins with a description of a farmer’s worst nightmare, but it may also be a reference to something everyone was terrified about in his day.
A Symbol for Joel
A key image from Joel is an invasion of locusts that will bring darkness to the land. It will destroy crops and fill God’s people with shame. But this shame will be followed by repentance, and God will restore his people. He will drive away the locusts; he’ll bring light and life back to the land. Rain and harvest will replace the devastation of their invasion, and God will pour out his Spirit on all people.
Tell it to your children,
and let your children tell it to their children,
and their children to the next generation.
What the locust swarm has left
the great locusts have eaten;
what the great locusts have left
the young locusts have eaten;
what the young locusts have left
other locusts have eaten.
Joel 1:3-4 (NIV)
