Resurrection to Mission: Living the Ancient FaithSample

Day 8: Mission in the Ordinary
Not all are called to martyrdom, but all are called to mission. Let me share a quieter yet equally powerful witness: a young Coptic doctor who spends his weekends treating impoverished, vulnerable patients for free and a team of people from staff, to nurses, to pharmacists who support this mission. When asked why, they reply unanimously and yet simply, “We are just doing what the Spirit tells us to do.” Their service, rooted in the Resurrection’s transformative power, lets the Spirit guide their hearts and hands.
“Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16 NKJV)
St. Gregory the Theologian exhorts us similarly saying: “Let us become like Christ, since Christ became like us. Let us become divine for His sake, since He for us became man.” (Oration 1 (On Pascha and His Slowness to Accept the Episcopate), §5)
The story of the doctor and team reminds us that mission isn’t always dramatic. Often, it’s the quiet, daily acts of love, those of serving, listening, giving, that bear the greatest witness. The Holy Spirit leads diversely: some to martyrdom, others to service, but all to love.
Reflection: How is the Holy Spirit calling you to live Pentecost’s message? What gifts, relationships, or opportunities has God placed in your life for His glory? Are you using your gifts, nurturing the relationships, and toiling in the opportunities that He has placed in our lives to bring him 100, 60, or 30 times? (Matthew 13:8)
Today’s Challenge: Do a simple act of kindness for someone in need, whether it’s helping a neighbor, volunteering, or offering a listening ear. Let the Holy Spirit guide your service.
Prayer: Jesus, You became like us so we might become like You. Shape my heart to serve others in humility and love, so that my life may reflect Your image to everyone I meet and that they would only see You in me. May my life reflect Your light and compassion. Amen.
The mission continues not only in grand moments, but in the faithful living out of our calling; one act of love at a time.
