Faith-Driven Impact Investor: What the Bible SaysSample

Faith-Driven Impact Investor: What the Bible Says

DAY 7 OF 7

7. Epilogue

Taken literally, Jesus commands the rich young ruler to sell all he has and build treasure in heaven by giving it all to the poor. Unconditionally – and all of it.

So, does Jesus expect us all to give away 100% of what we have and join the poor in their poverty? That’s not what the first-century Christians did, and neither do we believe that is what Jesus is asking all of us to do today.

But as these readings make abundantly clear, neither are we to proclaim ourselves “stewards” or “impact investors” while retaining control of our excess wealth and directing it into good causes to help others.

Somewhere between these two extremes is where we, as disciples, are called to live. And defining that “somewhere” takes more than just a few sentences.

To help define that, we encourage you to explore our next reading plan in this series, entitled “Managing Money & Wealth – What the Bible Says.“

That plan takes a very practical look at how we, as wealthy Christians, can and should live with our wealth today – seeking to serve God with and through that wealth, and not be trapped by the teachings of this world about wealth management, do-good investing, and charitable structures.

Let us leave you with this closing verse for reflection:

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” – Matthew 16:24–26a NIV

Blessings to you!
