God’s Strengthening Word: Learning From Biblical Teachings

DAY 16 OF 30

Introduction

Proverbs 10:1–32: Today’s reading, with proverbs attributed to the wise King Solomon, contains general truths about good character and wise living rather than specific instructions. The emphasis is on the ways good people will be blessed and the consequences of human actions.

Today’s Key Verse: Proverbs 10:7 GNT

Good people will be remembered as a blessing, but the wicked will soon be forgotten.

Reflect

Each verse is written in two parts, a literary style known as parallelism. In these verses, the second part contrasts with the first and expresses the opposite condition (usually a contrast between the righteous and the wicked). In other chapters in Proverbs, the second part of a saying will echo or expand on the first (for example, Proverbs 16:18). What is your overall reaction to these sayings? Do any of them ring true for you? Why or why not?

Pray

Dear God, I yearn to do what pleases you, but often I fall short. Yet you continue to love and bless me. I need to be reconciled and restored to you each day. Forgive my shortcomings and, as you have blessed me, teach me to be a blessing to others through my words and actions. Amen.

Tomorrow’s Reading

Proverbs 11:1–31: Righteousness gives life.
