God Is With Us

DAY 2 OF 10

The Lord God is actively involved in people’s lives

“And the Lord appeared to him [=Isaac] the same night and said, ‘I am the God of Abraham your father. Fear not, for I am with you and will bless you and multiply your offspring for My servant Abraham's sake.’” (Genesis 26:24 ESV)

“I'll stay with you, don't be afraid,” says a father to his infant son who has to stay in the hospital. “I'll come to you as soon as I can,” says a woman to her elderly mother who is feeling lonely. How encouraging and comforting to have someone stay with us when we are struggling. Especially when that person loves us and can take care of us.

Isaac was in such a situation. Because of a famine, he had to move temporarily to King Abimelech's territory. After a while, he was expelled from there. In a subsequent town, he came into conflict with the locals. Once more, he had to find a new dwelling place. Then the Lord appeared to him at night with the words, “I am with you.”

Isaac's father Abraham, had a deep, tested relationship with the Lord God. God promised him a great offspring and abundant blessings. He now repeated that promise to Isaac. These words of God show that He wants to be personally involved in people's lives. He does not just govern world events in broad outline, from a distance. No, He is involved in our lives in detail.

Do you think God is also “with you”? How do you notice this, or what gives you the impression that He is not “with you”?

About this Plan

God Is With Us

“God is with us.” That’s the good news the Bible tells us. Right from creation, God wanted to be with us humans. And despite all that has gone wrong since, He still wants to be with us! He even wants to dwell in our hearts. Find out more in this reading plan.
