Nearness

DAY 47 OF 62

There is an old saying that goes, “trust can take a lifetime to build, and moments to be destroyed.”

Trust can be a fragile thing. Friendships can be easily fractured with one bad decision. Marriages can break down over miscommunication. Families can fall apart when deceit and doubt creep in.

It takes vulnerability and courage to trust in something or someone beyond yourself. When we trust, we run the risk of being let down, hurt, or abandoned.

What if we took that risk? The reward is a beautiful connection that is based on faith, hope, and love.

God is trustworthy, and the psalmist is today encouraging us to trust in the Lord—the only one who won’t let us down.

Putting our trust in God means that if trust is broken in our friendships and family, we do not lose hope because our deepest trust rests in the person and work of Jesus, who has reconciled us to a perfect relationship with our Heavenly Father.

And now we can rest— “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him” (Psalm 37:7, ESV)— knowing that our trust in Jesus doesn’t need to be earned, nor do we need to fear it being broken because of His promise to never leave us nor forsake us.

Today, ponder this: Where am I putting my trust? Is it ultimately in Jesus or other things in my life?
