Conversations with Others about God
Let’s be honest—talking about God can feel intimidating. We wonder, What if I say the wrong thing? What if I don’t know enough? But sharing your faith isn’t about delivering a perfect pitch. It’s about having real conversations filled with humility, truth, and love.
God spreads His message through people. Jesus is called the Word made flesh, and the early church grew through dialogue—Philip with the Ethiopian, Paul in the marketplace, and Jesus with countless individuals.
One of the most powerful ways to share your faith is simply by telling your story. Psalm 66:16 says, “Come and hear... let me tell you what he has done for me.” When the blind man in John 9 was questioned, he didn’t argue—he said, “One thing I do know: I was blind and now I see.” Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can say is what God has done in your life.
So, how do we talk about God well?
1. Speak with Humility
You don’t have to be the expert. Say, “That’s a good question—I’ve wondered about that too.” Humility builds trust.
2. Share the Truth
The Gospel is transformational. Don’t shy away from sharing how Jesus changed you—but do it with grace.
3. Lead with Love
No one listens to someone who doesn’t care. Ask questions. Be present. See the person, not just the point.
Some people are curious. Others are skeptical. Your role isn’t to convince—it’s to invite. One seed planted in an open heart can echo for years.
I once shared the Gospel with a student who had never heard it before. She began weeping and didn’t even know why. That’s the power of the Holy Spirit working through our words. Another time, it was a simple interaction with a grocery store worker, offering a devotional and a word of encouragement. Whether big or small, our words matter.
Prayer: Lord, help me speak of You with courage, kindness, and clarity. Let my words reflect Your love and open doors for others to know You.
Reflection Questions:
1) Barriers to Sharing: What holds you back from talking about God more freely?
2) Opportunities to Speak: Who in your life might be open to a simple conversation about faith?
