Don't QuitSample

When you want to quit because you’re…bored
A part of King David’s story goes like this: In the time when Kings went off to war…David was walking aimlessly on his rooftop.
It is the setup for one of the more disastrous stories of the Bible. David didn’t go out with his warriors as usual and was instead bored at home, letting his eyes and his mind go wherever they pleased to go. Both landed on the beautiful Bathsheba, bathing on her rooftop. David’s decision would have deep, painful, long-term consequences of distraction and destruction.
We don’t know why David stayed back from what he normally did. But it was a bad decision, setting off a chain reaction of sin that would affect generations. Boredom was right there in the middle of it. It’s hard to think that something so benign, so innocent-looking, could have such an impact on life.
Beware of the trap of boredom to undermines your steadfast endurance. There is an old proverb that goes like this: Idle minds and idle hands are the devil’s playground.
Keep Going. Don’t Quit.

Lord Jesus, in my boredom, reveal my true need for you in my life. Connect me more deeply to you, the True Vine that gives life, meaning, and purpose to each day I live. Amen.

About this Plan

Do you feel like you are stuck and discouraged? Are you ready to give up? Hypomone is the Greek word for Steadfast Endurance. It’s the “Don’t Quit” challenge. We face a lot of temptations and reasons to give up. If you find yourself in that place, open your mind up to hear from God’s Word on why you should keep pressing forward. Don't quit because you're tired, bored, burned out, confused by an obstacle, distracted, impatient, or in conflict with someone.
