The Gift Given
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
(Romans 10:14-15 NIV)
Yesterday, we talked about receiving a gift. Today, let’s talk about being the giver of a gift.
I still remember the Christmas morning when I gave my daughter the “Barbie Dream House.” I knew how much she loved Barbies, and I just knew this gift would blow her away. I searched the internet for the best deal, carefully wrapped it in shiny Christmas paper, added curly ribbon, and topped it with the perfect card. I was almost shaking with excitement as I held my phone, ready to capture the moment.
When she realized what it was, she let out a big yell and fell to the floor in pure joy. That Barbie Dream House brought her years of imaginative play. Watching her enjoy it brought me even more joy than giving it.
Now, imagine handing someone a gift from God Himself. When you share the good news of Jesus with another person, you are doing just that. You are sharing with them the greatest gift ever given.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NIV)
It’s overwhelming in the best way. It’s like holding something sacred in your hands, knowing that what you carry has the power to change someone’s life forever. Not only can they be free and forgiven, but they can also enjoy the indwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit every day.
You have been entrusted with the greatest gift, and God chooses YOU—imperfect, ordinary you—to be the one to give it. Being a messenger of the gospel doesn’t need to be intimidating. You do not own the gift; you are only a messenger. You can confidently bring the gift to another person, knowing that the results are up to God. When you walk closely with others, sharing your life—the highs and the lows—you’ll find natural opportunities to share the gift with them. Just like you’d prepare for Christmas morning, you can prepare your heart and mind to share this eternal gift.
Here’s how to prepare:
• Praise Jesus each day for what He has done for you.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to share this gift with others.
• Look for opportunities to share this gift!
And when that holy moment arrives, you may tremble a little, but don’t let fear hold you back. The Holy Spirit will guide you. He will give you the words to say, and your simple obedience could open the door for someone to move from despair to hope, from death to life. When you carry and give the gift of salvation, you are stepping into a sacred role—one God delights in.
Reflection:
Do you think of the gospel of Jesus as a gift you are excited to give to others?
If you do not feel that kind of excitement about the gospel, share that with God. Ask Him to grow your excitement for sharing the good news of Jesus with others.
