Matthew 11:28-30 THE MESSAGE
[Jesus said,] “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Jesus longs for us to find rest and relief from weariness and burdens through relationship with him. Jesus presents himself as the source of rest and the solution to our spiritual heaviness. He extends an invitation to all who are weary to come to him and experience true rest for their souls. Jesus offers this invitation of grace and the promise to companion you in a life that feels lighter.
for reflection
- When was the last time you experienced burnout? Which aspects of your life feel exhausting in the current moment?
- When do you rest? How do you rest?
- How do you keep company with Jesus?
sensory cue
At some point in your day, come to a reclined posture in which you can be supported by the earth, your bed, a chair, or the floor. In yoga, this reclined posture is known as our final resting pose or savasana. Settle the back of your body into whatever is supporting you. Feel your body touch what is beneath you, and sink down. Invite your insides to relax. Finally, invite the top of your body to release and settle toward the back of the body. Next, soften your entire being, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. As you allow gravity to hold you, relax and release any striving or strongholds (physical or emotional). Imagine being held by God’s everlasting love and care for you.
