HZY | BRP Week 3 - the Role of the Holy SpiritSample

Who is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity, comprising God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. One God in three divine persons. Distinct, but of one substance. The Holy Spirit has been eternally active and has been involved in all creation.
Throughout the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit is seen to assist certain people for special purposes that God had for them. He gave them the strength and confidence they needed to do what seemed impossible. One example we see is in 1 Samuel 16, when God anointed David to be king over Israel and the Holy Spirit came upon him powerfully. David was the youngest in his family - not the most obvious choice for leadership, but because of his heart, God chose him. David’s courage and success came from the Holy Spirit working in him and through him.
In the New Testament, we see Jesus filled with the Holy Spirit, loving and serving God. Then, because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we are told in 1 Corinthians 16:19-20 that as Christians, we too are the ‘Temple of the Holy Spirit’. This means that as a believer in Jesus, you can house and carry the Holy Spirit wherever you go (how cool is that!!). He isn’t limited to those with big missions, but EVERY believer receives the Holy Spirit to help them know and live for God.
