This I Believe: Clarity in a Confused CultureSample

The Creed
“What do you believe about...?” It is a question we have all been asked. Our response may be nuanced and well-thought-out, or a word dump of complete confusion. Some beliefs are harder to explain than others! When tasked with putting our belief into words, it can give us pause and lead us to wonder, “What do I actually believe about this?”
This is an essential question for any Christ-follower. Many have some level of understanding concerning the Bible, Jesus, Christian ethics, and so forth. But we are living in a spiritually confused culture that is constantly blurring the lines and muddying the waters. We need a clear understanding and a concise way to articulate the faith.
Fortunately, the Church has developed a number of creeds: accurate, accepted statements of belief that summarise the key doctrines of the Christian faith. One of the most helpful and easy to understand is the Apostle’s Creed. To begin this Bible plan, read through the Apostle’s Creed and reflect on what each statement means. In doing so, you will join with billions of Christians who have lived for, confessed, and even died for these same beliefs.
Reflection Question:
If you had 2 minutes to explain the Christian faith to someone with absolutely no prior knowledge, what would you say?
The Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
