Who Is Jesus? 7 Days in the 'I Am' StatementsSample

Read John 6:35: Jesus declared: ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’
Jumping quickly back, just before this, Jesus had fed more than 5,000 people with a boy’s packed lunch. It's not a random miracle. It's reminding the people of a time in their history when God rescued and fed them. Jesus is showing them that He is that rescuer, God Himself.
It fits with what He says here: this is about something much bigger than lunchtime. Jesus isn’t talking about physical hunger or thirst. He's talking about spiritual hunger and spiritual thirst, that deep longing for meaning that so many of us feel. That need for relationship with God that we can’t get on our own. Jesus says that He is the key. Anyone who believes in Him and comes to Him will find satisfaction: life itself. We will meet with the God who rescues and provides.

About this Plan

If you had to finish the sentence ‘I am...’ I wonder what you’d say? The answer would say something important about you. But have you ever wondered how Jesus would finish that sentence? In John's Gospel, one of the Bible accounts of Jesus' life, we get the answer. In fact, we get seven answers. Over seven days, this plan looks at each one in turn and simply asks what Jesus said and what it means. The answers are life-changing.
