In our leadership-driven culture, we often elevate doing over being. But before Jesus asked the Twelve to lead others, He invited them to be with Him. Leadership in the kingdom of God flows from discipleship—not the other way around. Jesus knew that spiritual maturity must precede spiritual responsibility. If we neglect our own spiritual growth in pursuit of leadership, we risk building outward influence on a hollow foundation. Whether or not you carry a leadership title, you are first and foremost a follower of Jesus. And only healthy disciples can become healthy leaders.
