Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

DAY 42 OF 92

Devotional:

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)

Paul’s words to Timothy are a powerful reminder that spiritual maturity is not measured by age, but by character. Timothy was young, and likely faced doubt or dismissal from others in the church because of it. But Paul didn’t tell him to defend himself or argue for respect—instead, he told him to live in a way that commands it.

This verse challenges every believer, young or old, to lead by example. How we speak, act, love, believe, and pursue purity should reflect Jesus. Inside the church and outside too. It’s not about being perfect, but about being intentional—choosing to represent Christ in the small, daily moments that shape our influence.

Young people especially need to hear this: You are not “too young” to make a difference. You can lead by the way you encourage others, stand firm in your faith, make wise choices, and love selflessly. Your life can speak louder than any title or platform.

And for those who are older, this verse is a reminder to look for the fruit of the Spirit in others—not just years of experience. Watch for young leaders in your life that you can encourage and pray for.

Prayer:

Whether you are younger or older, take a moment to think of one or two young leaders in your church. Pray for them and ask God to develop them into leaders in the church and in His Kingdom.

About this Plan

Find & Follow Jesus, Quarter 3

Follow our quarterly plans to read through the entire Bible in one year, plus a bonus round through the Gospels and Romans. Each day, we encourage you to read the sections from both the Old Testament and the New Testament, and then set aside some time to write down, journal, or memorize the first posted verse from each day. Every week we provide an additional devotional for further discussion on that week's themes.
