Minor Prophets, Major Truths - Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah & Nahum

DAY 8 OF 31

Introduction to Amos

The book of Amos is a bold and confronting message from a shepherd-prophet called by God to speak to a prosperous yet corrupt nation. Though Israel enjoyed wealth and stability, Amos exposed the deep injustices beneath the surface—oppression of the poor, empty religious rituals, and a hardened refusal to live righteously. His cry still resonates today: “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” (Amos 5:24, NLT).

Amos reminds us that true worship is inseparable from how we treat others. God desires hearts that seek justice, humility, and obedience more than songs or sacrifices. The book warns that no nation is immune to judgment, including God’s own people, but it also offers a glimpse of hope—one day, God will restore the fallen and bless His people again.

Reading Amos challenges us to examine our own lives and communities. Are we living justly? Are we sensitive to the needs of others? Are our hearts aligned with God’s?
