DEPRESSION IS a LIE - a Podcast Series With Dustin TavellaSample

Let’s Get Real:
One of the hardest things to do as a human?
Letting truth lead when your feelings are screaming something else.
It’s tough.
Because when your emotions say you’re worthless…
When your thoughts feel heavy and hopeless…
When your mind “logically” concludes the worst-case scenario…
It feels real.
But that doesn’t make it true.
Like we saw in the video, illusions can seem completely legit—until you understand what’s really happening.
Our thoughts can be the same way. Depression and anxiety twist what’s real into something that feels believable, even when it’s the opposite of God’s truth.
So what do we do when our feelings and God’s truth don’t line up?
We choose.
That one decision—choosing truth over emotion—is one of the most difficult but most powerful choices you can make.
Truth Over Feeling
Knowing what’s true and acting on it are two different things.
You can know you have worth… and still feel worthless.
You can know God loves you… and still feel unloved.
You can know you're not alone… and still feel isolated.
Here’s the good news: truth doesn’t depend on your feelings to be real.
God’s Word is always true—even when your emotions tell a different story.
So, What Now?
Over the next few days, we’re going to take this seriously.
We’ll look at some key scriptures to confront three major lies that often come with depression.
We’re not pretending this plan is a quick fix—because it’s not.
But think of it like this: You’re about to collect some tools.
A hammer won’t build a house by itself.
But in the hands of someone ready to use it? That’s powerful.
Same goes for truth.
These verses, these prayers, these conversations—they’re your tools.
But they only change your life if you actually use them.
Your Challenge Today:
- Get honest with yourself about where your feelings and God’s truth don’t match up.
- Don’t shame yourself for how you feel—acknowledge it, but don’t follow it.
- Start asking Jesus to make truth feel more real than the lies.
You’re not alone in this. You’re not hopeless. And you’re not too far gone.
Let this devotional be your first step toward freedom.
Prayer You Can Pray:
Jesus, You know my heart better than I do.
You see the feelings I can’t shake and the lies I’ve started to believe.
Help me to see clearly.
Give me strength to choose truth, even when it doesn’t feel true yet.
And remind me that You are with me, every step of the way. Amen.
Bottom Line:
Your emotions are real, but they aren’t always telling the truth.
Let God’s truth lead—and let this be the start of your healing.
