Day 4 | Acts 4: Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin

In Acts 4, Peter and John face the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council, after healing the lame man. Despite the threat of persecution, they boldly proclaim the resurrection of Jesus. Their courage is a direct result of being filled with the Holy Spirit. The Sanhedrin is astonished by their boldness, recognising that these uneducated men have been with Jesus.

Their prayer is answered as the place is shaken, and they are filled with the Holy Spirit again. This chapter highlights the importance of prayer and unity in the face of opposition. The believers are not deterred by threats; instead, they are emboldened to continue their mission.

An Interesting Note

The Sanhedrin was the highest Jewish council and court in Jerusalem, composed of religious leaders, including Pharisees and Sadducees. It held significant power and authority over Jewish religious and civil matters, but was significantly limited in its power by the Roman authorities. The boldness of Peter and John before such a powerful body highlights the transformative impact of the Holy Spirit, enabling them to speak with authority and confidence despite their lack of formal education.
