DAY 34 OF 36

Bible Study 28/30

Jesus commanded: Be baptised

No.10/12

Key principle

Jesus commands us to be baptised. Baptism is a public declaration that we cut all ties with our previous lives. We turn away from all allegiances to other gods, a lifestyle of sin and rebellion against God. With baptism, we proclaim: "I have died with Christ, and I have been raised from the dead." It is a proclamation of what we believe. It is a faith statement.

Should all believers be baptised? Yes. Matthew 28:19 is clear about this.

Who can baptise new converts? There are no prescriptions for this aspect in the Bible. In denominational or traditional churches, pastors usually perform baptisms. However, there are no New Testament restrictions regarding who may or may not baptise a new convert.

Must I be baptised with water to be baptised and filled with the Holy Spirit? No. There is no Scriptural evidence that one needs to be baptised to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Key Scripture passages

Matthew 28:18-20 (BSB) - Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey…

Romans 6:3-11 – It is a key passage to study to understand the essence of baptism.

Obedience

Have you been baptised? If you accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour, it is a Biblical command to be baptised.

About this Plan

For New Followers of Jesus - 30 Bible Studies

Every day, people come to Jesus and start to follow Him. Many of them do not receive follow-up. Nobody is taking care of them. Nobody helps them grow in their relationship with Jesus or explains to them what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Short: Nobody is discipling them. This plan will help you to that with young converts.
