Psalm 119 With Matt Chandler: A 10-Day RightNow Media DevotionalSample

Day 2: Psalm 119:17–32
Many of us have found ourselves in situations that started out hopeful and have come to leave us feeling disappointed and in need of rejuvenation. In today’s session, David finds himself in a similar circumstance.
Reflect
In verse 17, David makes a request of God that’s laden with high expectations, which Matt said could be mistaken for the prosperity gospel—the belief that everything will go our way if we give our lives to Jesus. What expectations do you have of God? How can we strike the right balance of having high expectations of God like David did, without falling prey to the prosperity gospel’s influence?
It may seem counterintuitive, but God is faithful to bring us to the end of ourselves so we can recognize our need for Him, confess where our faith in Him has faltered, and believe in Him all the more. When has God brought you to the end of yourself? How did He use that circumstance to draw closer to you and bolster your faith?
Respond
God loves us. And because He loves us, He sovereignly uses the challenging circumstances of our lives to draw us in and redirect us from whatever distracts our attention from Him. His Word is living, active, and written on our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives within us.
If you find yourself in need of rejuvenation today or if you need God to help you follow His Word, confess that to Him. Bring it before the Lord and ask for His help.

About this Plan

Even the most mature believers face dark nights of the soul. During those times God seems distant, his Word feels dry, and the vibrant intimacy we knew before seems absent leaving us wondering, “Where is the Lord in this?” In Psalm 119, Matt Chandler aims to introduce viewers to the words of King David who experienced similar seasons of life. Serving as the anchor for the study, Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers and its ability to provide a warm blanket for the soul.
