We Are FamilySample

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!
S: Scripture
If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.
O: Observation
Read James 1:19–20 again.
- Who is this teaching for?
- What does it teach us about how to approach conflict?
- Why does it say this instruction is important?
A: Application
How might your life look different if you put aside anger and worked toward a better understanding of your family?
Who's someone in your family you can better listen to this week? What's a step you could take to do this?
What's a way you can remind yourself to take a deep breath when you begin to feel angry toward a family member?
P: Prayer
Spend some time in prayer talking to God about the things you feel cause conflict in your family. Ask for wisdom to see what role you play and how you can be someone who brings understanding and patience to a situation. Then, thank God for the pattern Jesus has given to be slow to anger with you.

About this Plan

Family can be complicated. Some family memories make us laugh, and others… well, we’d rather forget. The truth is, no family is perfect, and even the Bible is full of families that fell short of the ideal—just look at Abraham’s! In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll follow Abraham’s family, who had their own set of imperfections, and see how God was faithful through their best and worst moments. Along the way, we’ll discover that no matter what kind of family we have, there's always room for us in God's family.
