Sad Parents

Did you ever forget to pick up your child from school or practice or get hung up in traffic and miss a school band performance or ballet recital? The look on your child’s face says it all, and you feel lower than a gopher hole. But cheer up! There are worse parents in the animal world.

Quokkas are cute little Australian marsupials, a kind of mini, cat-sized kangaroo. When predators threaten, quokkas relax the pouch holding their offspring. The joey is suddenly ejected, which attracts the predator to the young one while the mother makes her escape. Now doesn’t that make you feel better about yourself? You’d never do that. Even if you did miss your child score a winning touchdown.

Sweet Spoonful: People say that parenthood doesn’t come with an instruction manual, but God gave us the Bible, which contains all the basics we need (Proverbs 22:6). We also learn parenting skills from our own parents and from the example our heavenly Father demonstrates in his Word. Being a parent is a lifetime commitment, a sacred trust of love, sacrifice, long-suffering, and servanthood. Somebody should tell the quokkas.
