Encouragement for New Believers

DAY 28 OF 30

When Jesus told Peter he would deny Him, Peter confidently said, "Others might, but not me!" But just hours later, Peter was swearing and claiming he didn’t know Jesus. It can happen to any of us. The Bible says, "Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own [particular] desires and enticed." (James 1:14 NKJV)

We all have weak spots that can lead to trouble if we don't manage them with strong character and commitment. What can you do about it?

(1) Recognise it. Before giving in to temptation, you often go through stages. If you stop praying and reading the Bible, you might start ignoring God, not noticing the risks, and being drawn toward trouble.

Then you start justifying your actions, thinking, “No one will find out. What’s the harm?” As you ignore your conscience, your desires get stronger. You might also seek out people who do the same things or who won’t challenge you. Jesus said, "Pray… that you may not enter into temptation." (Mark 14:38 AMP) Pray for strength before the temptation comes!

(2) Reach for help. When Jehoshaphat came up against an enemy too big to handle alone, he prayed, "We have no power against this great multitude… nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." (2 Chronicles 20:12 NKJV) Jehoshaphat knew he was no match for the enemy, and he knew where to turn for help.

What’s the secret of victory? Lean less on yourself and more on God!
