DAY 5 OF 7

When in your life have you had to take a “leap of faith”? What was the end result, and what did you learn about yourself and about God through that process?

Sometimes in life, we have to take big steps of faith—a big decision, an action that goes against conventional wisdom, or a “risky” move. In today’s devotional, we see Naomi come up with a plan to secure her and Ruth’s future. The plan seemed crazy, but Ruth took a leap of faith and followed through. We’ll see how her step of faith paid off.

Reflect

Part of walking in righteousness involves seizing the opportunities God places before us. Naomi took matters into her own hands. Just as Ruth sprang into action in chapter two, Naomi actively pursued open doors to provide for her daughter-in-law. What does it look like in your life to actively pursue God?

In addition to faithful action, following God often requires us to wait, just as Ruth waited for Boaz to fulfill his promise at the end of chapter three. When have you realized it was time for you to wait? How did you feel during that time? What did God teach you?

How do you discern if it’s time for you to take a step forward or if you should wait?

Respond

Ruth teaches us that walking by faith requires action. God moved behind the scenes in Ruth and Naomi’s lives in ways they could never imagine. But each step of the way, they had to walk through the open doors He presented before them. Our lives often work in similar ways. We don’t see God’s hand in the moment, but we do see the next step forward. Our calling as His followers is to walk in obedience each day.

Today, ask God to show you what steps of faith you need to take. And then pray for the strength to obey His guidance.

About this Plan

The Book of Ruth With Bianca Juarez: A 7-Day RightNow Media Devotional

No one knows the feeling of abandonment more than Ruth and Naomi. Their story begins with the worst—death, famine, and poverty. But the book of Ruth doesn’t end with despair. The story brims with hope because God works on behalf of the two widows in ways they least expect. In this 7-part series, Bianca Juárez teaches through Ruth to show how God moves behind the scenes in our lives. On the surface, this book tells the story of two widows and a kind landowner. Even more, it teaches us about God’s faithfulness, love, and providence.
