Power On!Sample

Some days my home is a mess. The week has been chaotic, the dishes have piled up, the floors haven’t been vacuumed, and the fridge is nearly empty. On those days, more than anything, I just need a friend — to sit with me, share a cup of coffee, and listen. But sometimes, I hesitate to invite them in because things aren’t “ready.” I worry the mess is too much.
Yet, when I push past that hesitation, I always leave those moments feeling refreshed and reminded that I am loved, not for how tidy my house is, but simply for who I am.
But you know who's even better than a friend? Jesus.
Nothing in our lives is too messy for Him. No circumstance, sin, or brokenness can separate us from His love. He doesn’t require us to be polished or put together before we come to Him. He welcomes us as we are.
Luke 18 is full of parables about people who weren’t perfect—those who were overlooked, unwanted, or rebuked. Jesus speaks of a persistent widow, a humble tax collector, and little children desperate to come to Him. And at the end of the chapter, we see His teaching lived out in His response to a blind beggar.
When the man heard Jesus was near, he called out. The crowd told him to be quiet. It wasn’t polite. It wasn’t the “right” way to seek Jesus.
But he shouted all the more. And Jesus heard him.
Jesus stopped, welcomed him, commended his faith, and healed him.
The kingdom of God belongs to those who seek Him desperately—not those who have it all together.
Too often, we let the world’s expectations keep us from coming to Jesus. We worry about how we appear, whether we’re “worthy,” and whether we should wait until we’ve cleaned up our lives first. But that’s not how Jesus works. He doesn’t wait for us to be perfect. He meets us right in the middle of our mess.
What area of your life are you holding back because it’s not “perfect enough”?
Will it ever truly be ready? Does it need to be?
Prayer:
Lord and Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are God over everything—over our world, over our circumstances, over our mess. Forgive us for the times we hesitate to come to You. Thank You that You love us in every season, in every circumstance. And thank You that Jesus meets us exactly where we are—because that’s exactly where we need Him. Remind us, Lord, that we don’t have to have it all together to come to You. We just have to come. Amen.

About this Plan

With Jesus, we want to go from "standing by" to stepping out! Through these readings, experience stories of when God led people to turn "on" their spiritual power and saw the Holy Spirit move through them. God is ready to do miracles on Earth, but we can miss out on what He is ready to do by staying in the boat like Peter nearly did. These Scriptures will encourage you to step out of the boat and see the Power of the Holy Spirit move!
