DAY 27 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read James 1:22–25 again.

  • What warning does it give?
  • What does it teach us about putting Jesus' words into practice?
  • What promise does it give?

A: Application

What's a shortcoming, maybe others have pointed out that you have a difficult time seeing in yourself?

What about it makes you resistant to change?

What do you think might change about your life if you put Jesus' words into practice about that thing?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer as a time of self-reflection. Read the passage again and ask God to reveal to you what might need to change. Say you're sorry for anything you've been doing that harms you or others. Then, thank God for the chance to put Jesus' words into practice to live a fuller life.

About this Plan

Another Look

Have you ever had a conversation that opened your eyes to something you’d never thought about before? Or maybe someone asked you a simple question that completely shifted your perspective. Words have the power to change everything, and that’s never been more true than with Jesus. He asked questions that changed people’s perspectives and caused them to take another look at themselves, their lives, and what they believed about God. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll take a look at some big questions Jesus asked.
