Women Friends of the Bridegroom JesusSample

Day 1: The Joy of Not Being the Center
“The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete.”
— John 3:29 (ESV)
In first-century Jewish culture, the friend of the bridegroom — the shoshbin — held a role of trust and honor. This person was responsible for the wedding preparations, safeguarded the marriage contract, and announced the coming of the groom. But what most defined this role was the joy felt upon seeing the bride and groom finally united. When that moment came, the friend of the bridegroom would step aside with a heart full of satisfaction.
The model for the friend of the Bridegroom is found in John the Baptist. When his disciples expressed concern that the crowds were now following Jesus, John responded with humility and conviction:
“This joy of mine is now complete.” (ESV)
John knew he was not the center of the story. He could have boasted about being recognized as a prophet — something that had not happened for 400 years. But he didn’t. John understood his place and his mission: to prepare the way for the true Bridegroom Jesus. More than just accepting this, he rejoiced in seeing Jesus recognized, even though it meant his own decrease.
We live in a time that encourages us to be the center, to seek recognition, and influence. But the true friends of the Bridegroom have a different ambition: that Jesus may increase, and they may decrease.
The joy of the friends of the Bridegroom is not in being applauded, but in seeing Jesus worshiped. They find satisfaction in being a bridge, not the destination. They rejoice not when they are celebrated, but when Christ is exalted.
Women who walk grasping the weight of John the Baptist’s message are fiery, prophetic voices ignited by the Word of God. Their hearts blaze with love, humility, and divine purpose. Consumed by a deep passion for Jesus, they draw others to Him, awakening hunger and love everywhere they go.
From the wellspring of their intimate communion with Christ, they rise with boldness into their calling. They take their place in the Great Commission, helping to prepare the Church, the radiant Bride, for the return of her Bridegroom. Through lives marked by discipleship, fervent intercession, purity, and radical hospitality, they echo the legacy of the courageous women who followed Jesus with undivided devotion.
My Prayer:
Father God, deliver me from the need for recognition. Teach me the joy of disappearing so that You may be seen. May my heart find satisfaction in seeing others encounter You. Make me like John — content to hear Your voice and behold Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
About this Plan

The Friends of the Bridegroom are those who live in intimacy with Jesus, pointing to the identity of the Lamb of God and joyfully participating in the preparation for His coming. They support the work of the gospel and eagerly await Christ’s return. John the Baptist was the first to be called a friend of the Bridegroom — a model of humility, faithfulness, and fervent love for Jesus. This 9-day plan will help you discover what it means to embrace this calling, to live with passion for Jesus, the Bridegroom, and to prepare the heart of the Bride, the Church.
