Obedience: The Bridge to Intimacy

DAY 5 OF 5

Obeying the Right Things

The truth is that life is sometimes confusing. Jeremiah said that the heart is deceitful. It’s tricky. Even when we try our best to obey God, we can sometimes be mistaken about what He's asking for. That’s why we’re going to end this Plan with some tips for ensuring we’re obeying the right thing.

How do we know that what we're doing is right if we can’t trust ourselves?

  1. We look to Scripture. Scripture is inspired by God and can separate even soul and spirit. It’s stood the test of time and will continue to stand forever. If the Scripture tells you to do something, you do it. It’s the main way we know we’re obeying.
  2. When we’re uncertain about what Scripture says–either because we’re new to the faith or figuring out a passage–we default to love. First Corinthians 13 guides us on what the God kind of Love is. God’s Love is others' others-focused and can help protect us from our pride, anger, lust, and all manner of things. It helps us to do the right thing.
  3. If you’ve been obeying by doing something for a while–say, God told you to work a specific job–and you’re looking for the next thing with no clear answer, keep obeying. God’s instructions are often longer-lasting than we expect or enjoy. It was Pastor Craig Groeschel who said, “We will often vastly overestimate what we can do in the short term, and vastly underestimate what we can do in the long term.” How true this is, and even more so when we’re considering an Eternal God’s Instructions.

Thank you for doing this Bible Plan with me. God has created you on purpose, for a purpose. Don’t give in. Obedience is worth it because we get to know God better. We become more like Him.

Don’t give up. Don’t give in. Keep the faith.

You’re never alone!

Day 4

About this Plan

Obedience: The Bridge to Intimacy

Did you know that your Primary Purpose in life is to know and be known by God? This Bible Plan is not a list of rules. It’s not telling you to do better. Rather, let’s take a look at a sustainable lifestyle that embraces the Way of Jesus. God wants to know and be known by you.
