Defiant Hope

DAY 2 OF 5

Hope in the Midst of Trials

Trials can be painful, but they also serve a purpose. They refine our faith and strengthen our character. Think of a time when you were met with a situation and you were initially convinced that there was no solution. Yet, after pausing, praying and reflecting - a plan and method of attack was downloaded and you overcame the challenge. This is an example of activating hope in the very face of trouble. There are countless examples in the Bible, but one that resonates is the story of Moses and how he helped the Israelites escape slavery and led them to the Promised Land. The book of Exodus records several moments when Moses was confronted with a challenge and opportunity to display hope. In the 14th chapter of Exodus, Moses and the Israelites were stuck between the Red Sea and Pharoah's army. Not only did he have that barrier, but he had to deal with their worry and complaints. But if we go back a few chapters, God displayed examples to Moses that He was with him on this endeavor. By now, Moses' faith had grown in God enough to know that He was with him. So, Moses had the hope to continue trusting that God would make a way and surely, He did!

Imagine Pharoah's army when the sea closed in on them while watching Moses and the Israelites walk on dry ground to the other side. The demonstration of hope in the presence of enemies is a bold and worthy statement that produces resilience.

Reflection:

Consider how God has used past trials in your life to grow your faith. What lessons can you carry into your current challenges?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the growth that comes through trials. Help me to embrace my circumstances with a heart of joy, knowing that You are working everything for my good. Amen.
