Draw Your Sword

DAY 2 OF 8

When You Don’t Know What to Do, Draw Your Sword

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (NLT)

Psalm 119:9 -11 - How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (NLT)

Whether you are new or old to Christianity, there are times or will be times when you aren’t sure of what to do. Sometimes, we make bad choices knowingly, other times it is out of ignorance. In today’s passages, we learn that the Word of God is available as a source of wisdom for us in both circumstances.

When we read, study, meditate, recite, or learn the words of the inspired Word of God, we are corrected and taught what is the right thing to do. I am often surprised at the truth and wisdom I find in the Bible. Not only does it instruct and comfort me about my own circumstances, but it also explains why the world is the way it is. Whenever I am upset about an injustice, I usually find a verse of scripture that reminds me of a particular truth and provides me with a source of hope. Not only do I find comfort, but I also gain perspective. The Bible is the route out of all my messes and confusion, whether self-inflicted or inflicted on me. It is my Google Maps for those times when I need it and even when I think I don’t!

Questions for reflection: Do I depend on the Bible for direction? Is it the first place I turn to for wisdom, comfort, or correction? Have I asked the Holy Spirit to help me understand the words in the Bible?
