Building for Eternity

DAY 5 OF 5

Foundation First

First Foundation

Biblical Story: Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:7-16)

Theme Verse: Matthew 6:33

When we trust God and put His kingdom first, He provides for us in ways we never expected. We can actually trust God to take care of us and stop worrying about the things that stress us out!

In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us to seek God’s kingdom first, and then everything else we need will be given to us. That means when we focus on what matters to God—like loving others, praying, and doing what’s right—God promises to meet our needs. We don’t have to worry about things like what we’ll eat or what will happen tomorrow. God’s got it covered!

Let’s look at the story of Elijah and the widow at Zarephath from the Old Testament. There was a famine, and the widow had barely any food left—just a tiny bit of flour and oil. Elijah asked her to make him some food, and even though she was worried, she trusted God and made the food. Then something amazing happened! God made sure her flour and oil never ran out, and she had enough food for her family and Elijah. When she put God’s plan first, He provided in a way she never could have expected.

Sometimes we don't have all the blocks we want to make our dream building or project. But what happens when you stop worrying and just keep building with what you have? You often end up with something even better than you imagined! Life is kind of like that. When we stop stressing about everything and start trusting God, He can do more for us than we could ever do on our own.

Instead of worrying about our work, homework, friends, or the future, let’s try to focus on trusting God. Start another Bible reading plan, invite some friends, spend some time praying, or do something kind for someone. Remember, when we put God’s kingdom first—just like the widow trusted God first—He will take care of our needs. Let go of your worries, and see how God provides in ways you didn’t expect!

Questions:

1. Why do you think it’s important to seek God’s kingdom first?

2. How does it make you feel to know that God promises to take care of your needs if you trust Him?

3. What can you do this week to show that you trust God before worrying about other things?

Theme:
