Musing With David

DAY 4 OF 10

Finding Faith Beneath the Night Sky

My first lessons in astronomy did not come from a planetarium or a science textbook. They came from quiet, wonder-filled nights in rural India, where the sky was my classroom. I remember watching stars pierce through slits in heavy clouds, and on clear nights, being mesmerised by their brilliance. With the help of older family members, I learned how to tell stars from planets and to identify a few constellations with the naked eye.

Yes, Sunday School, family devotions, and church played vital roles in shaping my faith. But the awe-inspiring beauty of creation—especially the night sky—anchored my belief in God when it was tested during my college years as a natural sciences student. Later, in seminary, my understanding deepened as I read the Book of Romans and discovered the theological foundation for what I had already experienced: general revelation.

The apostle Paul puts it powerfully in Romans 1:20:

"For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."

The skies, the seas, the rivers, the mountains—all of creation—testify to God’s power and majesty. They speak a language that transcends culture, creed, and time.

I invite you to pause and reflect, whether under a canopy of stars in a quiet village or straining to glimpse the heavens through the haze of city lights. Creation is not just beautiful—it is very vocal about its Creator. It draws us into a deeper relationship with the Creator.

Even visiting a planetarium or the stirring lyrics of Carl Boberg’s hymn “How Great Thou Art” can awaken us to the grandeur of the One who made it all. Open your eyes. Look up. Let creation speak—and let your heart respond in worship.

ACT ON IT

Take time to step outside this week, even just a few minutes. Look up at the sky—morning or night—and let yourself wonder. Reflect on the majesty of creation and allow it to stir your heart toward the Creator.

Read Romans 1:20 slowly. Let its truth sink in. Creation is not silent—it is declaring God's glory.

Journal your thoughts or write a prayer of praise, thanking God for how He reveals Himself through the world around you.

Consider listening to “How Great Thou Art” and let its words guide you into worship.

Let creation be more than scenery—let it become a doorway into deeper communion with the One who made it all.
