Daily Bible Reading— May 2025, God's Strengthening Word: Trusting in God’s Promises

DAY 16 OF 31

Introduction

1 Samuel 24:1–22: David’s men encourage him to kill Saul when he has the chance, but David refuses. The reading concludes with Saul acknowledging that David had indeed spared his life.

Today’s Key Verse: 1 Samuel 24:6

[David said to his men:] “May the LORD keep me from doing any harm to my master, whom the LORD chose as king! I must not harm him in the least, because he is the king chosen by the LORD!”

Reflect

What does David remove from Saul’s robe (verse 4)? Why does David choose not to harm Saul (verses 5–7)? What does David say to Saul (verses 8–15)? How does Saul respond (verses 16–22)? What promise does David make to Saul (verses 21–22)? Throughout today’s reading, in what ways does David demonstrate his respect for Saul? What are your thoughts about David’s actions?

Pray

Lord God, I trust in you. Lead me this day and guide my words and actions so that I do not cause harm to anyone but speak and act in ways that reflect your love for others. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.

Tomorrow’s Reading

1 Samuel 26:1–25: David spares Saul’s life again.
