DAY 5 OF 7

Think About Your Thoughts

In Phil 4:4-8, we are encouraged to rejoice, always be full of joy in the Lord, not worry about anything, pray about everything and be thankful so that we can experience God’s supernatural peace that is beyond our understanding. This peace will guard our hearts and minds as we live in Christ Jesus.

Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Yet, how many times a day do we find ourselves doing the exact opposite? Sometimes it is the circumstances of life that overwhelm us, taking us down a path of worry or fear that leads our hearts to a place of anxiety, discouragement and hopelessness. Sometimes it is much more subtle, a way of thinking that reflects the world's culture rather than Kingdom culture, like "don't get your hopes up" or "I always struggle with this.” Such mindsets are a seedbed for doubt rather than faith, disillusionment rather than hope.

I'm sure you have heard it said before, but we must think about—and pay attention to—what we are thinking! We need to stop and ask ourselves, “is my mind being governed by the Spirit, my flesh, or the world?” The mind governed by the Holy Spirit produces the fruits of His Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. However, the mind governed by the flesh and the world leads us away from the abundant life God has for us.

God has created our minds to think His thoughts and experience the fullness of His love for us. Why don't we take a moment today to ask the Holy Spirit whether there are areas in our thought life that are currently led by our flesh or by the ways of the world? He is more than able to help bring our minds into order, under the authority of His Spirit. As we grow in keeping our minds fixed on Jesus—the author and perfecter of our faith—we will experience living in God’s perfect supernatural peace every day.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, search me and show me the mindsets or thoughts I have that need to come into alignment with Your Word and Your way. I trust in Your leading as I submit my mind to Your Lordship. I receive Your perfect peace and refreshing rest.
