Relationship With God: Come as You AreSample

Relationship With God: Come as You Are

DAY 1 OF 3

Our position with God as His children

With whom are you reading this plan? Invite a friend or family member to read with you. Together, you will learn more.

Did you know you have a unique, distinguished position with God as His child? When you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, you change from someone who cannot be connected to God to an heir with complete, unrestricted access to Him.

That significant change affects your relationship and position with God quite a bit. In this Bible plan, you're going to learn more about that.

Have you ever considered what it means to be a child of God? As we understand our position better, our attitude will change, and we will begin to approach God in a totally different way.

Our previous identity
Everyone is born in darkness, which is especially noticeable in our lives before Christ. We were slaves to the god of this world. We wandered this earth like lost sheep.

Isaiah 53:6:
“All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

We were busy doing all kinds of things, but didn't really have any idea which way we were going. Perhaps you can remember what it was like before you knew God. Many people recognize a certain meaninglessness in life, which they could not eliminate before accepting Jesus. That makes sense because everything the world offers will never fulfil us and transform us into who we are meant to be.

But God never intended it that way. It wasn't supposed to be that way. That’s why Jesus came.

Your identity now

Who are you destined to be?
A son or daughter of God.
The Bible says that everyone who has accepted Jesus and believes in His name becomes a child of God. That’s how “easy” God has made it for you (John 1:12 and Galatians 3:26).

God makes that “sonship” possible because of His great love for you (1 John 3:1). He wants nothing more than for everyone in this world to become His son or daughter. That means you can have a Father-child relationship with God. You have the position of a child. Amazing, right?

It was Jesus who made that change of identity possible. God sent His only begotten Son because He loved us so much.

John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Jesus was the “only begotten” Son of God. What a sacrifice. But now God has many more sons and daughters, including you.

Your 'position' has completely changed.
It is no longer about what you 'do,' but who you are.
So Jesus is the key to this. He came to restore something special. It's more than paying off our sins. What exactly? You'll learn that tomorrow.
