When Work Hurts: Finding Hope and Purpose When Suffering on the Job

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” - Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

During a difficult season on the job, I penned a prayer that said, “I’m tired Lord. Please help. That’s the prayer, amen.” Immediately after praying I heard the Spirit say, “I’m enough.” At the time of that prayer, I was past all the religious colloquialisms and epithets. I was frustrated and full to the brim in disdain for my situation. But I chose to meditate on what my spirit heard: "I am enough.” I went on about my day, which was genuinely a good day. I laughed, smiled, and found some good things to write down for the day. That evening when it was time for devotion, I read today’s scripture. Had I just experienced a supernatural response to my morning prayer? Had God infused my weariness with strength?

One thing I’ve learned as a Christian; Christ is more concerned with changing us than our situations. Our challenges and problems directly invite God to show us He is indeed God. In our moments of weakness, He can be viewed even larger than our mountaintop experiences of Him.

Queen Esther reminds us that maybe, just maybe, we were put in the situation we are in for such a time as this. Perhaps we need to be brought to our lowest so God can do His greatest work in our lives. But to do something for you, He has to be able to do something through you. This means an inside-out positioning that will give us all we need to be victorious in this season.

Suffering on the job is inevitable. There are going to be situations that you face where you are indeed the victim. There will be times when you are being persecuted for no just reason. There will be situations where the enemy uses the very people on your job to challenge your walk, but I invite you to ask God, The Master Trainer, for guidance for this journey. I encourage you to press into Him when you feel your lowest so He can infuse you with the strength you need for the storm.

He is here to work in us, through us, and for our good and His glory. So to get to the point, we have to see weariness and weakness as a blessing. Without struggles we can’t tap into the supernatural strength and power that comes from God.

You are a conqueror; you are redeemed; you are the head and not the tail; you are loved; you are necessary, and you were appointed for such a time as this. You! You are in the right place at the right time for the right reasons. Use THIS day to dial into prayer with God. Open your notes and begin to journal everything you hear. Receive it. Then fact check it with the Word. Anything placed in your spirit by the Spirit will be made known through the Word.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for meeting me in my weakness. You provide strength when I have none. You carry me when I can’t walk. You give me hope when days are dark. Thank you for being my ever-present help in time of need. In Jesus' name, amen.
