David, a Man After God’s HeartSample

Words of God’s Spirit
“The Spirit of the Lord speaks by me; His word is on my tongue.” (2 Samuel 23:2)
David was a man after God's heart. He was not perfect. But throughout his life he longed to fear and love the Lord. The many Psalms he wrote give us a glimpse into his “life with God” in times of prosperity and in times of deep distress. They show us David's penetrating cry for salvation and enthusiastic praise, his deep repentance and intense gratitude.
These Psalms are not just David's words. As he stated in his last speech: the Spirit of the LORD spoke through him. That is why so many of David's words and songs are used in Jewish worship and are included in the Bible. Jesus quoted them as God's authoritative Word.
Throughout history, many believers have used David's words to express their own emotions and experiences. I want to encourage you to read the Psalms in the Bible. They can help you grow in your faith; they are an example of living with the Lord.
Do you sing along with David in his songs of repentance, of praise and thanksgiving? Are there certain Psalms you love to read or sing? Why do those songs in particular appeal to you so much?
