Saved Me From What?Sample

Saved From Sin
We’ve known since grade school that smoking isn’t good for us.
This is not to pass any condemnation on any men reading who are stuck in the grip of nicotine—we certainly pray that you can find freedom!
But even those who do smoke know very well it’s terrible for the body.
I lost a grandmother and grandfather within a year of each other to smoking-related cancer, and my family saw up close what damage smoking can do.
And yet, millions of people still do it. They are addicted, even though it’s hurting them, and even though the vast majority know they shouldn’t do it, they do it anyway, reaping the consequences of being enslaved to a cruel power.
Sin is the exact same thing.
Non-smokers can’t get too judgy about cigarettes; we have our own similar addictions.
We know our sin is wrong. We know we should do better. We know it does damage to our lives. We know it will ultimately kill us.
But like the smoker, we are hooked. Sin does damage, but it offers us pleasure “for a season” (Hebrews 11:25). And like cigarettes, as we partake in sin, we are breathing damage into our inner being, and yet the pull is so strong that we cannot resist.
For the Christ-follower, that’s where we were, anyway.
When Jesus died for us, as our passage today states, He fully canceled our sins. He took the list of all of our infractions and nailed it to the Cross, covering it permanently with His blood and washing away its stain.
Thanks be to God!
It’s so unbelievably good: we have literally been proclaimed “perfect forever” in God’s eyes because of what Jesus has done for us (Hebrews 10:11-14).
You can’t get any better in God’s eyes than that. You can’t add or do anything more to receive anything more. You’re already perfect because of Christ.
Moreover, when our flesh still struggles with sin, the Holy Spirit empowers and frees us from sin, increasingly transforming us into men who hate sin and giving us the strength to resist its pull (Romans 8:1-2; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18).
It couldn’t be any better. In every way, Jesus saves us from sin.
Prayer: Jesus, I can’t praise You or thank You enough! I was lost in my own sin, and You have come and found me! Transform me into a man who hates sin, and give me the strength to resist temptation. Amen.
Reflection: What would you say is your biggest sin struggle right now? What are some steps you can take to find freedom?
About this Plan

When we were lost in our sin and helpless to save ourselves, God sent His Son Jesus to die on the Cross and rise from the dead to bring us into the fullness of salvation (Titus 3:4-7). This week, we will explore the implications of the empty tomb and everything Christ has accomplished for us. Written by Chris Walker.
