God tells the Israelites to honor their parents. Throughout the Bible, we are told to put others before ourselves - this goes for members of our family and our parents too! God is not just talking about obeying our parents when they tell us do something, but we are supposed to honor them with our attitudes as well. It's more than just following the rules, but having a heart that trusts our parents, loves them, and therefore wants to obey them (which is also how the 10 Commandments works when it comes to God! It's not just about following his rules, but having a heart that loves him and wants to honor him).
