Journeying to Easter - Part 3Sample

Death
The end of a season. The death of what was before in order to make room for the new.
Imagine Jesus’ mix of emotions as He prepared for His death. The fear of the pain that was to come, the disappointment in the actions of the people around Him who were created to love Him, and the anticipation of the release of His power to save God’s children.
Such a mixture of emotions is normal as we approach the death of something in our lives. Just as Jesus did, we can hold the truth of the importance of this transition with the grief and loss we’re feeling. For Easter specifically, it’s important to understand the depth of the sacrifice and emotional turmoil that Jesus went through for us. It was not only the end of His physical ministry and 33 years on earth, but it was done in the most torturous method known to man at the time, the cross.
And yet we see our beautiful Saviour willingly say ‘Yes’ to God’s plan and accept this death for our sakes. We can learn so much to apply to our own lives from the way Jesus handled His death.
Are we approaching our transition seasons with grace, or resistance? Are we accepting the complex blend of emotions and are we willing to partner with God despite that, or are we seeking to control and change the outcome of what God is having us face? Let us be more like Jesus.

About this Plan

“In these next days and weeks leading up to Easter we’ll explore different scriptures. Each verse a thread in the tapestry of God’s great big redemption story – all culminating in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this Easter season, let’s slow down and create a regular rhythm of remembrance together.” (Lent – Lucy Weil)
