Where would I be if I didn’t have joy?

Joy is a deeper emotion than to simply be happy. It’s part of the fruit of the spirit. It comes from leaning on Jesus instead of ourselves or our circumstances.

With joy comes strength. The strength to make it through that health diagnosis, that challenge in your marriage or family, that financial struggle, or the suffering of losing a loved one. Joy stands strong in the craziest storms of life because of who we find joy in.

One of the easiest ways to increase your joy is to think back on what we discussed in days 1-4 of this devotional. When we reflect on who Jesus is, the mercy He shows us, the grace He freely gives, and the living hope we have in Him, we can’t help but have joy!

Next time you find yourself struggling to stir up some joy in your life, begin by listing what you have been given in Jesus. You are free from your past; you have a God fighting the battles you are walking through; you don’t have to carry your burdens alone; you have been given victory over the grave because of His blood, etc. You will soon begin to see that nothing can steal your joy because no one can steal Jesus.

It is crazy to think of where we would be if we didn’t have hope, mercy, grace, joy, and most of all, Jesus, but thank God we’ll never know!
