The Shift: Part 4Sample

The Shift: Part 4

DAY 1 OF 5

What Are Spiritual Ties?

Imagine trying to run a marathon while dragging a heavy chain behind you. That’s what spiritual ties do. They weigh us down, making it impossible to move forward in Christ. These ties can come from things like past sin, toxic relationships, or even generational patterns passed down through your family.

The writer of Hebrews calls us to “throw off everything that hinders.” That’s not always easy, especially when the things holding us back feel familiar or even comforting. But here’s the truth: you can’t live in the fullness of Christ while holding onto what’s keeping you bound.

The good news? Jesus has already won the victory. Through His death and resurrection, He broke every chain and set us free. But freedom requires action. It’s up to us to identify the ties in our lives and surrender them to God.

The original audience of Hebrews was made up of Jewish Christians who were tempted to return to their old religious practices instead of fully embracing Christ. This verse encouraged them to let go of anything that kept them from running their race with endurance.

Take some time to pray and ask God to reveal any spiritual ties in your life. Are there patterns, relationships, or sins that are holding you back? Write them down, then ask the Holy Spirit to help you begin the process of breaking free.
