Egging You On! Beating Life's Difficulties & Cracking on With God

DAY 6 OF 10

Moses - Egg and Soldiers

Today we turn our attention to Moses, whose story we find in the book of Egg'xodus. (I think that's my favourite one yet!)

One aspect of the story of Moses that I love is the people God sends to support him in his life's egg'xpeditions. Moses' sister Miriam watches over him as he floats in a basket in the river. She goes on to support him through the Exodus, as a prophetess who leads the people in songs of praise to God. Pharaoh's daughter pulls Moses out of the bulrushes as a baby - she rescues and raises him. Moses as a lone egg felt incompetent, so God provided his brother Aaron to stand by him and support him. God also uses Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, to speak wisdom over a situation that could have caused Moses to burn out. God uses Aaron and Hur to hold up Moses' arms during the battle against the Amalekites. As long as his arms were upheld, the battle was won. It was a team effort, not a Moses-only victory.

All of us need a supportive band of soldiers, who provide us with strength, challenge, care, and wisdom. And we in turn should support other eggs, being part of their platoon.

Do you have an army of soldiers to call on to stand with you? You don't need thousands of soldiers, but you do need several solid comrades by your side. If you want to make a difference on this planet, you will have to accept that other people will be involved in you achieving great things for God. We will all experience times of great strength and enthusiasm and times of great weakness and disappointment and we need to enlist people to support us through both.

Moses humbly and wisely accepted the help of others and is one of the most well-known biblical characters. He was used by God to break the Israelites out of captivity, God spoke to him face to face, (Exodus 33:11) by God's power he parted the Red Sea, and performed all kinds of weird and wonderful miracles along the way.

Being egged on by others is a sign of strength. We have no egg'xcuse to try to go it alone! The challenge today is to sort out your soldiers!

Reflection

Who is in your band of soldiers? Thank God for them today.

If you don't have any or you don't have many, ask God who else you could enlist.

About this Plan

Egging You On! Beating Life's Difficulties & Cracking on With God

Throughout this ten-day plan, I want to 'egg you on' - to encourage you to be bolder in your walk with God. The Christian life is not easy, and we have to develop a daring spirit to be a great example of God's love. This plan will focus on the lives of nine biblical characters, looking at themes like depression, fear, failure, challenge, and stress, highlighting the ways God can help you overcome these difficulties. Warning - contains many terrible egg-related puns!
